WHAT IS PELVIC HEALTH PHYSIOTHERAPY ?
Pelvic health Physiotherapy commonly known as pelvic floor rehabilitation is the specialized branch of manual therapy which involves assessment and treatment of the muscles, connective tissue and nerves of the pelvis through an internal (vaginal and rectal) and external exam and treatment.
Proper length, strength and coordination of the pelvic floor muscles are required to prevent dysfunction.
WHAT WE CAN TREAT
- Incontinence
- Urgency and frequency
- Painful bladder syndrome/IC
- prolapse
- Constipation
- chronic pelvic pain syndrome (CPPS)
- Pregnancy & post partum
- Dyspareunia
- Vestibulodynia/vulvodynia/vaginismus
- Chronic non-bacterial Prostatitis
- Cancer rehab (post prostatectomy and other pelvic cancers)
WHAT TO EXPECT
Through a tailored treatment plan, the physiotherapist manipulates pelvic floor muscles to restore their strength and function. For example, shortened and contracted muscles are stretched to relax in order to relieve pelvic floor pain associated with excessive tightening and cramping.
